Grooming requirements for these dogs are rather high, as their long coat sheds much throughout the year. Originally bred for hunting, these dogs are very hardy. They are not afraid of cold and can spend much time outdoors, but living indoors with the family is much better for them. For more than a century, purebred dogs of this breed have been selectively bred to be friendly, reliable and trustworthy. Although most dogs are not used for their original function nowadays, they retain necessary working abilities, such as a keen sense of smell, love for water, agility, and intelligence.
