To adopt a golden retriever, it is advisable to check both dog rescues and kennels.
This breed is classified as sporting and requires much exercise and much room to play and run. It sheds heavily and people with allergies cannot keep such dogs. These are practically all disadvantages of the breed. If trained properly, these dogs make excellent hunting companions and family pets. These dogs adapt easily and even older animals taken from rescue organizations can be active and playful for a long time. Their lifespan may reach 15-17 years if provided with good care. This breed is very intelligent and can be trained to perform commands and tricks.
