Both puppies and adults of this breed are very inquisitive, active and people-oriented, which makes them difficult pets for people with sedentary lifestyle and those who work all day. This breed is prone to obesity, so they should be walked several times a day. These dogs are noted for their intelligence and loyalty, but only if provided with much attention and care. They love to retrieve, particularly if water is also involved. Grooming takes much time with this breed. Without regular brushing and bathing, these dogs shed heavily, especially in the spring.
